Cape Farewell, renowned for connecting artists and scientists, presents the Lovelock Art Commission, an annual commission that invites an artist to take inspiration from the lifelong work of the famous scientist James Lovelock.
The first selected artist, Marcus Coates, will launch his installation ‘The Sounds of Others: A Biophonic Line’ during the Manchester Science Festival 2014. Marcus uses custom built software to explore the sounds of animals, such as field crickets, starlings, humpbacked whales, lions and humans, to reveal unimagined connections between species and unearth common patterns and forms that would normally be beyond the reach of the human ear.
